Case study
Following the merger of two national mobile operators, a three-year transformation began to integrate the technology supporting both businesses and create the foundation for a new digital operator.
Working within the global technology services provider responsible for the transformation, 80 Team Inspire consultants contributed across more than 90 workstreams, helping the newly combined operator move towards a more secure, highly available and scalable technology foundation.
The challenge
The merger brought together two extensive technology estates, each with its own legacy billing systems, customer-care platforms, corporate IT environment, data-centre infrastructure and delivery processes.
These systems needed to be harmonised without disrupting services relied on by millions of customers. At the same time, more than 700 retail stores were being brought together within a single national footprint and the new organisation was preparing to launch the UK’s first 4G network.
The programme needed to create a secure, highly available and scalable technology foundation while maintaining business continuity across customer services, retail operations and the wider organisation.
The contribution
Embedded within the technology provider’s wider delivery organisation, Team Inspire consultants brought multidisciplinary capability across:
- Programme and project management
- Business analysis
- Technology and infrastructure architecture
- DevOps
- Data-centre and cloud transformation
- Infrastructure engineering
- Systems integration
Across more than 90 workstreams, Team Inspire consultants supported the integration of the two corporate IT estates, including the harmonisation of legacy billing and customer-care systems.
Architects, DevOps consultants, infrastructure engineers and technical specialists helped modernise data-centre infrastructure and move the combined estate towards a more integrated, flexible and scalable environment.
Team Inspire consultants also supported technology delivery across the newly combined retail estate during the critical run-up to Christmas, helping ensure stores were ready for one of the busiest trading periods of the year.
Programme and project consultants connected teams, technologies and dependencies across the transformation, helping move complex workstreams from design into implementation.
The impact
The wider transformation created the integrated, secure and resilient technology environment the newly combined operator needed to function as one business.
It connected critical billing, customer-care and corporate IT systems, supported technology delivery across more than 700 retail stores and helped maintain services relied on by millions of customers throughout a period of unprecedented change.
For the global technology provider, Team Inspire supplied the scale and breadth of capability needed to sustain delivery across more than 90 interconnected workstreams, from architecture and programme leadership through to hands-on technical implementation.
The result was a stronger, more scalable technology foundation for the combined business and the successful launch of the UK’s first 4G network.
