Building a modern technology foundation across six UK airports.
When a global systems integrator secured a major contract with the UK’s leading airport operator, it trusted Team Inspire to help deliver from the outset.
Case study
Within two weeks of the contract award, the first Team Inspire consultants were on site with the client, ready to deliver in one of the world’s most operationally demanding technology environments.
The initial deployment grew into a multidisciplinary team spanning architecture, infrastructure, engineering and programme delivery. Embedded within the systems integrator’s wider programme team, Team Inspire helped design, coordinate and deliver a more modern and integrated technology foundation across the airport estate.
The challenge
Ageing data-centre infrastructure, legacy applications and a large physical technology estate were making change slower, more complex and more expensive.
The programme needed to modernise technology supporting approximately 10,000 users across six distinct airport environments, while maintaining the continuity and resilience demanded by live airport operations.
Each airport had its own systems, operational requirements and delivery priorities. The challenge was to create a more integrated and efficient technology foundation without disrupting the critical services relied on by airport teams, airlines, retailers and passengers.
The contribution
Embedded within the systems integrator’s wider programme team, Team Inspire provided specialist consultants across:
- Cloud and infrastructure architecture
- Solution architecture
- Data-centre virtualisation
- Storage and network engineering
- Oracle and cloud technologies
- Programme and project management
The multidisciplinary team supported the design and delivery of a more modern and integrated technology environment across the airport estate.
Solution and infrastructure architects helped define the target architecture and connect requirements across applications, infrastructure, data centres, storage and networks. Their work helped align individual projects with the wider programme and the operational needs of each airport.
Virtualisation consultants supported the move away from a heavily physical data-centre estate, reducing dependence on ageing hardware and creating a technology foundation that could be managed, maintained and expanded more efficiently.
Storage and network engineers strengthened the underlying platforms supporting applications, operational systems and data across the airport group. Oracle and cloud consultants provided focused expertise to support the migration and modernisation of existing services.
Programme and project managers coordinated delivery across technical workstreams, airport locations and partner teams, helping manage dependencies, resolve issues and move planned work into implementation.
As the programme developed, Team Inspire gave the systems integrator rapid access to the specific capability each stage demanded. Consultants were mobilised into defined workstreams and embedded within established teams, connecting architecture, engineering and programme delivery through one flexible delivery model.
The impact
The wider programme replaced ageing infrastructure with a more flexible, resilient and efficient technology foundation.
Data-centre virtualisation reduced reliance on legacy physical hardware, while modernised storage and network capability created a stronger foundation for operational systems, critical services and future technology change.
For the systems integrator, Team Inspire provided trusted consultants exactly when and where they were needed. Mobilised within two weeks and embedded across multiple disciplines, the team helped establish early momentum and support delivery throughout a complex, multi-year engagement.
